Wake up and smell the concrete

Today after I got back from college I was pleased to see an envelope for me. Inside was the skate zine I'd ordered last week- Curbsnot. It was a little hard to track down but a few e-mails and £1 later, it was mine. I got to reading the main piece, a nine-page spread on a skate trip to the Basque country of nothern Spain. Sounded awesome and concreted thoughts in my head that we should do a similar thing someday, but that's another story for another day.

At the start of the journal, the writer says he's probably winded up doing this himself from watching 'The Search For Animal Chin' shortly after starting skateboarding. Having no idea what this was but intrigued by its continent migrating power, I Googled it.

Turns out it was a skate movie from the late 80's, produced by Stacy Peralta himself. Not only this but it was one of the first to have a plot. Simply, the Bones Brigade (Tony Hawk, Steve Cab, Lance Mountain, Mike Mcgill and Tommy Guerrero) set out in search of Won Ton "Animal" Chin, the legendary skateboarder who's recently gone underground after the sport he invented became too commercial. Understandably completely drawn in, I started streaming it online. As well as perfectly capturing one of my favourite skate styles, once you embrace the awkward script and acting the film's got some hilarious moments too.

As far as I'm concerned, if fate is real, this is it. I didn't have to track down that zine, I didn't have to read the article, I didn't have to notice the one line mentioning the film, I didn't have to Google it, I didn't have to watch it, but I did all those things and it's led me here. To a HW remake. The Animals instead of the Bones Brigade. The ark instead of Animal Chin, you get where I'm going with this. I don't have details but I'm mapping out a plan in my head right now. Yes I know it's gonna take a lot of work but I know we can do it so let's.

"If we don't find him, it's okay 'cause we had a rad time anyway!"
